deep hole boring?
i boring a hole 2.260 in dia. +- .005 16.0 deep. im using a okuma lu35 and sandvik dampering bar with a sandvik 55 deg insert .015 tool nose radius. i having trouble holding a good finish what should i do? im feeding about .004 and my sfm is about 500. what else could i do to try to get a 32 finish on a such a deep bore?
i assume its 32micron finish
use 4 jaw chuck to increase grip
leave yourself good half mil final cut
ensure the tool is on the centerline
ensure the tool is tight
change tool (make tool steel and grind your own bore tool)
what material are you machining
have you got the right speed selected
experiment with plenty of coolant or cutting fluid/grease
